Police Chief Raul Quezada’s departure comes as the city looks to fill two other top posts, for city attorney and city manager. It also comes as a spate of other Orange County law enforcement leaders step down from their posts.

About six months ago, the city settled a lawsuit with property owners by agreeing to tweak the rules for short-term rentals and to offer several options that would enable owners to recoup their investment.

LA Times: Rent control in California could expand dramatically under a possible 2018 initiative

The initiative would repeal the landmark Costa-Hawkins Act, a 1995 law that barred rent caps on single-family homes and apartments built after that year. If it passes, local governments would be able to implement rent control on newer properties.
