Voice of OC: OC lack of progress on homelessness is tragic. Could it soon be illegal?

On Tuesday, the nation’s largest federal appeals court unanimously overturned a district court decision in favor of the city of Boise, Idaho, in a case where homeless people challenged city ordinances barring them from camping overnight on public property.

 

OC Register: Orange County sheriff’s dog attacked county employee in his office, biting arm for “around a minute”

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said that following the incident, the department’s K9 teams “immediately suspended all training at county buildings that are not solely occupied by Sheriff’s Department personnel.” She added that the dog is expected to remain part of the K9 unit.

 

OC Register: L.A. County supervisors impose temporary rent control for some mobile homes

The county board voted 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to approve a six-month moratorium on rent hikes for mobile home spaces, a move designed to protect those residents from preemptive rent hikes while permanent rent control for such housing is under consideration.

 

OC Register: Toyota recalls 1 million Prius, C-HR hybrids on risk of fire

The recall affects every one of the current-generation Prius, including a plug-in variant, and the hybrid version of the C-HR made until May of this year. The latest Prius began production in 2015 and the C-HR debuted in December 2016.

UTLA: UTLA members vote overwhelmingly to authorize strike

Teachers in the LA Unified School District have had enough. A 98-percent vote to authorize a strike was a sharp rebuke to the District’s austerity agenda to ultimately cut pay, healthcare, pensions, staffing, and student services, starving schools of resources and opening the door to dismantling the district.
