Labor 411: The number of workers wanting to join unions is the highest in 40-years

American workers have not given up on unions. When we conducted a nationally representative survey of the workforce with the National Opinion Research Corporation, we found interest in joining unions to be at a four-decade high.

OC Register: Costa Mesa brings ambulance service in-house, officials say it will be more efficient

After contracting with Care Ambulance, a private company, for about 10 years, Costa Mesa now takes patients to the hospital in its own ambulances. The switch is expected to allow the city to recover about $1.2 million more annually that previously went to Care.

 

Voice of OC: Fullerton City Council to vote on taking control of library

But Mayor Doug Chaffee said he doesn’t think the majority of the City Council will vote in favor of taking over the library. “I’m unaware of any one of us wanting to take it over,” Chaffee said. “I don’t see support for it.”

As part of a five-year widening project, the Slater Avenue bridge over the 405 Freeway is scheduled to close at 1 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, for about 12 months.

 

OC Register: OC Animal Care shelter to receive $100K grant to help save neonatal kittens from euthanasia

On Saturday, OC Animal Care kicked off a campaign to get 100 new fosters in 100 hours. It’s part of an effort to increase community involvement. There currently are 217 foster caregivers working with the Orange County shelter.I

Associated Press: Trade war escalates as China announces tariffs on U.S. imports

The two countries have already imposed import taxes on $50 billion worth of each other’s goods. President Donald Trump threatened to add an additional $267 billion in Chinese imports to the target list if China retaliated for the latest U.S. taxes.
