City Council Adopts AMEA General and Clerical Full-Time Tentative Agreements

We are very excited to communicate that last night the City Council voted unanimously (7-0) to adopt our tentative agreements for the General and Clerical bargaining units. Council members expressed their thanks for the work we all do and for our patience during what they acknowledged has been nearly two years of inaction by the City. They also pledged to continue to work with AMEA towards accomplishing the City’s goal of restoring economic security to AMEA members.

The 3.5% lump sum payment and the initial 1.5% wage increase will be effective for the pay period beginning October 4, 2019 and will be included in your paycheck dated October 25, 2019. Another 2.5% wage increase will be effective the pay period that includes uly 1, 2020, and another 2.5% wage increase will be effective the pay period that includes July 1, 2021. Each employee also receives one floating holiday each calendar year during the contract, including 2019. The floating holiday is not cashable and cannot be carried over to a future year. So be sure to get approval for and use your 2019 floating holiday by the end of the year.

Over the past year voters elected a new Mayor and a new City Council majority, and the City has a new City Manager, a new Human Resources Director, and a new Employee Relations Manager. Each one of them played a critical role in reaching a fair and equitable agreement for AMEA members. We are greatly appreciative and encouraged by the City’s renewed engagement of and commitment to AMEA and its members. This would not have occurred without the unity and perseverance of those AMEA members who stood strong and did not back down when faced with adversity. It’s only when we stand together that we can prevail. Thanks to all of you who stood strong with us. If you know someone who isn’t a member, tell them it’s their obligation to join AMEA today. Click here for the application. They need to pay their fair share towards success at the bargaining table and fairness in the workplace.
