FMEF Negotiations Update - Jan. 28, 2022

Dear FMEF member,

Your FMEF Bargaining Team met with representatives from the City on January 24, 2022. The City's latest offer was positive and showed progress on wages. The Team is formulating a response for City Council to review perhaps by February 1, 2022. However, the City's latest offer does not provide retroactive pay even though the City delayed negotiations for three months last year. Retroactive pay is more than justified in such a circumstance and your FMEF Bargaining Team will continue to push for that.

A story in the Fullerton Observer this week accurately reports that "the continuous decline in levels of City Staff has been one of the City of Fullerton’s most significant problems," and that services are shrinking despite of federal aid and a budget surplus. This is precisely the narrative conveyed by FMEF members during hours of public meetings and relationship building with reporters. You can click here to read the article. We have reached this point due to months of activism by FMEF that won support for workers in the community and in the press.

Once negotiations are complete, we will move to the contract ratification process. Lookout for emails announcing the ratification meetings. Remember, only FMEF members are eligible to vote on FMEF contracts.

We are getting there! Thank you for your patience, your activism, and for being part of this inspiring effort to turn things around for workers serving the people of Fullerton.

In Solidarity,

Veronica Rodarte
Sr. Labor Relations Representative
