Potential Mandatory Transfers of SSWs and SSSSs at SSA

Dear CFS SSWs and SSSSs,

As you may know, employees at CFS recently learned of potential term limits and mandatory transfers of SSWs and SSSSs in non-case carrying assignments. This was announced to SSSSs during a recent All-Supervisors meeting and, subsequently, to SSWs in their respective program and unit meetings. OCEA staff were made aware of this by Union members, not County leadership.

OCEA immediately initiated the Meet and Confer process over these significant policy changes and their impact on your working conditions.  Whenever an employer makes changes to wages, hours, or terms and conditions of employment, they are obligated to meet and confer with the union.

We have requested all pertinent information regarding these changes. So far, we have only received a one-slide summary with less details than many of you already provided. According to our understanding, the plan is not yet solidified, and details relevant to OCEA members are still being determined.

We are compiling a list of questions OCEA members would like clarified. Please submit these questions to OCEA Labor Relations Representative Kerensa Schupmann at kschupmann@ocea.org by 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 18. Questions will be summarized and submitted to the County on Thursday, Oct. 19, as an initial step in this process. We will provide updates as they are provided to us.

This will be an ongoing process, so if you are unable to submit your question by the time above, please still do so, and we will submit it at a future meeting.

Despite some rumors, OCEA has not taken a position on this topic. Too many questions remain unanswered. No new or updated policy even exists yet. Rest assured, we will aggressively monitor the development of this policy.

We stand by all our members, regardless of their assignment. If you have questions or concerns, please contact your OCEA Labor Relations Representatives:

In Solidarity,

OCEA
