Fullerton is one step closer to having a homeless shelter, including some recuperative care beds, after the City Council voted to give the Illumination Foundation $500,000 to help improve a private property the foundation is negotiating to buy.

The full appraisal of Angel Stadium is sitting in a binder in the Anaheim city manager’s office and only the City Council is allowed to see it, but it seems that the value of the stadium has already been leaked, according to one city councilman.

OC Register: Saddleridge blaze in Sylmar spreads to 4000 acres, burning homes and evacuations

The rapidly moving Saddleridge fire in Sylmar had spread to more than 4,000 acres by Friday morning, leaving charred homes in its path. Its spread into the San Fernando Valley foothills forced thousands of evacuations and closed freeways. The blaze was aided by the gusty winds reaching up to 60 miles per hour that blew into Southern California.

 

Sacramento Bee: CalPERS long term care trial delayed over settlement talks

A judge has postponed a trial in a $1.2 billion lawsuit against CalPERS over an 85 percent price hike to its long-term care insurance policies. The trial, which had been scheduled to start Oct. 30, has been moved to April 13 to make time for settlement talks, according to court filings.
