Orange County continues to struggle processing a backlog of sexual assault evidence kits that were collected from victims, yet haven’t been tested to identify their possible attackers. The backlog stood at over 1,200 untested kits early last year.

The women were meeting the dogs for the first time Thursday after two weeks of training classes. Now, they’ll spend the next eight to 10 weeks with the two dogs, preparing them for their eventual adoption.

 

OC Register: Former DEA agent from Orange County indicted on Capitol riot charges

Mark Ibrahim, 32, was arrested in Washington, July 20 after federal authorities identified him in photos that appear to show him flashing a DEA badge and a firearm while on the Capitol grounds that day. He also was accused of climbing on the Peace Monument to deliver a monologue.

The potential for moving stranded nuclear waste off San Onofre’s coast — and away from scores of other nuclear power plants nationwide — took a step forward in July when the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff concluded that a private, temporary storage facility in Texas poses little risk to the environment and should be licensed.

 

OC Register: Fullerton mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus, the first confirmed in 2021

The West Nile virus was found in mosquito samples collected from two different parts of Fullerton, the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District announced Friday. The mosquitoes were the first in the county to test positive for West Nile this year.
