APPLY NOW for $2,500 OCEA Scholarship

Dear OCEA member,

As you may know, the Labor Movement is on the upswing! Public sentiment toward organized labor is at an all-time high as the nation looks toward strong unions to reverse the anti-worker management policies at some of America’s largest and most influential corporations. Today’s activists are tomorrow’s leaders, but the future of this movement will depend on a variety of talented, smart people from all walks of life electing to stand up for working people.

We know paying for a college education isn’t easy. That’s why the OCEA Board of Directors awards scholarships each year for dependents of OCEA members.

The Board offers three $2,500 college scholarships to be awarded in July. Applications can be downloaded here and are due by 5 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024. You can also scan and email the completed application and supporting materials to info@ocea.org.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicant is a child or stepchild of an OCEA member; or
  • Applicant’s legal guardian is an OCEA member; or
  • Applicant’s financially responsible grandparent is an OCEA member.

To qualify, students must also be enrolled, or intending to enroll, in an accredited community college, college or university, or an accredited trade, vocational/technical school for the Fall 2024 quarter or semester.

A selection committee will review each student’s high school transcripts, current GPA and personal recommendations. Each applicant must also submit a 750-word essay describing how they would use their college education to improve the lives of working families. The essay will be the greatest determining factor in selecting scholarship winners.

The OCEA Board of Directors is committed to supporting the next generation of strong union leaders and these annual scholarships reflect that commitment.

In Solidarity,

Judy Bowling
OCEA President
