Court member update: Jan. 31, 2019

Dear OCEA member,

Happy 2019! Our union will be gearing up for 2019 bargaining over the next couple of months. In doing so, members will receive a Bargaining Unit survey which is the single most important tool we use in understanding the needs of membership. You can also expect to receive information on how to be a part of the Court bargaining team and what’s involved in the process. Below are updates of some of our important, outstanding items:

Market Studies

Court Clerk Series:

The Court has concluded the review of the submitted PDQ’s, desk audits and courtroom observations. The Court Clerk bargaining team and OCEA have been in discussions with the Court over the findings since late December. Recently a Court Clerk bargaining unit meeting was held to discuss the study and our next steps. Please talk to one of your OCEA bargaining team members if you have any questions.

LPS Series:

During the month of February, unit members in the Legal Processing Specialist series will receive instruction from the Court on details of their Market Study. It will include an instructional video and your Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ) to complete. OCEA will conduct on site visits at each of the Justice Centers to ensure unit members are equipped with as much detail and support as possible.

It is important to note that the Market Study and 2019 Bargaining are separate and apart of one another.

Court Funding

Orange County Delegation: While the budget is being crafted in Sacramento, OCEA is working hard to ensure more funding comes to Orange County courts. OCEA is working with members of the Orange County Legislative Delegation to sign on to a letter of support asking for more funding in the 2019/20 budget. We want to thank Senator Tom Umberg for taking the lead and supporting Orange County workers.

In Solidarity,

Bridgette Washington
OCEA Senior Labor Relations Representative
