Court Negotiations 2022 Kickoff

Dear OCEA member,

The Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) that cover OCEA-represented employees at the Orange County Superior Court are set to expire on Oct. 27, 2022. Negotiating a new agreement is the most important action the union embarks upon. Our MOUs determine our rate of pay, healthcare arrangement, grievance procedure, ways to balance our work and home life, and more. These are the most important things that exist for us and our families.

The process to negotiate a new agreement begins NOW! We have two important actions for each OCEA member to take!

First, we need you and your fellow members to complete the 2022 Negotiations Bargaining Survey! This essential step helps us identify the priorities of OCEA members.

Second, we need you to join us for a Bargaining 101 training on June 2, 2022. We will host two trainings; one option is virtual. Check out the flyer below!

A union is working people standing together. OCEA is built on the ethic of workers caring about workers—empathizing with each other, taking responsibility for each other, and for the public we serve. We stand together to protect and empower everyone through our collective power and through our MOU. A union is not a consumer product you shop for at Wal-Mart. It is a place where workers have the power to change their lives by building power. Together we are OCEA. We are the union that provided a path to the middle class for hundreds of thousands of public servants, that protected public service through the 1994 Bankruptcy, and that helped elect the largest number of pro-union politicians to office.

The fight to win improvements in the workplace requires many steps. Political pressure, workplace leadership, and constant organizing. We must recall the words of Frederick Douglass, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”

Please complete your survey and attend our training!

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
