Fiscal year vacation use deadline coming up!

Dear OCEA Member,

This is clearly a time of uncertainty and workplace disruption. Your family, your safety, and your job security are all paramount. Vacation hours and usage may not be at the top of everyone's mind.

But the end of the County fiscal year is approaching, so I want to remind OCEA members with Annual Leave balances and ten (10) years of continuous full-time County service that you can elect to use a maximum of 40 vacation hours for approved time off.

The last opportunity to use those hours will be during the pay period ending June 18, 2020. This option was negotiated by your OCEA Bargaining Team, ratified by OCEA members last October, and adopted by the Board of Supervisors. Workers with ten or more years of service may use up to 40 hours of vacation time per fiscal year - that year is drawing to a close on June 29, 2020.

I want to be clear that this MOU provision does not limit the amount of time-off an employee can take each fiscal year. This provision simply provides the ability to apply up to 40 vacation hours to scheduled time off and continue to carry an Annual Leave balance. Contact County Human Resource Services to advise you as to specific qualifications.

You can also email any question or concerns to info@ocea.org

Stay safe and stay connected to OCEA for updates as they occur.

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
