Honoring Our Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day
Dear Union member,
As we observe Memorial Day today, OCEA remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation. Their courage secured the freedoms we exercise every day—including the right to organize and advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity in the workplace.
As you may know, the promise of a final resting place close to home remains unfulfilled for many Orange County veterans and their families. The Gypsum Canyon Veterans Cemetery project, located at the junction of the 91 and 241 freeways, consists of more than 200 acres dedicated to honoring those who served.
The Orange County veterans' community, Board of Supervisors, and state legislators continue to clear regulatory hurdles to expedite this long-needed project. Veterans shouldn't have to travel to Riverside or San Diego to visit the final resting place of those who served. Many veterans are aging and losing friends who deserve to be laid to rest with dignity in their own community.
Please click the video above to watch an update on the veterans cemetery—which includes former OCEA General Manager, retired Marine, and longtime veterans advocate Nick Berardino.
This Memorial Day let’s not only honor all who gave their lives for our country, but let's also renew our commitment to ensuring those who served receive the respect and recognition they deserve—both in life and in their final rest.
In Solidarity,
OCEA
