Honoring the Ultimate Public Servants on Veterans Day

Dear OCEA member,

Earlier this week, we watched millions of Americans head to the polls to honor our fundamental right to vote—giving us as individuals a say in our democracy. With Veteran’s Day ending the week, the correlation between those who served and sacrificed for our rights and the preservation of democracy and society at home and abroad could not be more evident.

When we think of Veterans, we should think of them in the highest light—as the ultimate public servants. I have had the pleasure of working with many Veterans who are OCEA members in my time here, seeing firsthand how the dedication they have to their country translates to the dedication they have for their communities. The skills learned in service translate in many ways to benefit the County, cities and districts OCEA members care for daily.

As we recognize Veterans Day, I hope you celebrate veterans you may know in your life for the work they’ve done in the name of our collective freedom. We all know freedom is not free. To those who protect us at home or go off to war—THANK YOU for all you have done and continue for us all. Today, we salute you.

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
