Join Chris Prevatt for a workplace leadership meeting this Thursday!

Dear OCEA member,

The last month you have heard quite a bit from me about my re-election campaign to the OCERS Board of Retirement. Today I want to share with you why I got involved in our union and how you can do the same.

I became an OCEA member in 2000 and six years later decided to become an OCEA Steward because I wanted to make a difference. Our Stewards are workplace leaders who connect OCEA members with their union. They stand shoulder-to-shoulder with coworkers to help solve workplace issues, keep members informed, and work with OCEA professional staff. Stewards are the backbone of the union.

You may know your Steward from some of the fun duties they perform such as alerting everyone when the OCEA Hot Dog wagon will be at your workplace or passing out OCEA swag. You may also know your Steward through the important work they do in working groups such as Labor Management Committees, Forums, or other issue-based committees.

OCEA Stewards are crucial to the strength of our union. We need Stewards in every agency, department, location, floor, classification, and program. You can find our complete list of current County stewards HERE.

If you don’t see anyone who represents your area or want to get involved yourself, please join the next Steward meeting to see if becoming a workplace leader is right for you.

Every union’s strength is strength in numbers AND strength in leadership.

Our next OCEA Steward Meeting will be on Thursday, October 21 at Noon and 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Meetings are held monthly on the third Thursday of every month at Noon and 5:30 p.m. (currently via Zoom). To join, please use the Zoom information below:

(See home email or contact OCEA Senior Organizer Alisha Greene at agreene@ocea.org for Zoom details.)

I hope to see you there!

Chris Prevatt
OCEA 2nd Vice President and
candidate for OCERS Board of Retirement
