Library Scheduling and Staffing Assistance Update: Sept. 7, 2023

Dear OCEA member,

OCEA has learned of recent policy updates by OC Public Library Headquarters regarding Scheduling and Requesting Staffing Assistance. These changes would allow management to request staff stay in the branch during lunch for a 30-minute lunch, while leaving one person to staff the branch on occasion.

We want to thank those of you who have alerted us to these changes so we can address them with management.

There is also a rumor that management reported that OCEA had signed off on these policy changes. That rumor is FALSE. OCEA has not signed off on any policy changes. To the contrary, OCEA has notified OCPL that we request to meet and confer over these significant policy changes and their impact on your working conditions.
