North Justice Center closes for the day

Dear Court member:

The North Justice Center closed today in response to a routine test for the presence of asbestos in the ventilation system. The test is done daily during ongoing remodeling of the facility.

OCEA's Organizing Team members were on site to monitor the situation and to make sure workers were being treated fairly. Here's what we know:

  • North Justice Center workers willing to work at other justice centers were dispatched to those locations;
  • Court reporters were sent home as their equipment remains inside the building;
  • Court workers being sent home may use vacation to cover the remainder of the day.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will forward new information as events unfold. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the closure and/or the response, please contact Labor Relations Representative Danielle Chau at dchau@ocea.org.

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
