OMA Update: March 7, 2024

Dear OMA member,

Last week your OMA board and OCEA staff representatives met to discuss the City’s current political climate, November City Council elections, and 2025 Negotiations. As you recall, your current MOU provides for an 18-month term, from January 2024 to June 2025. City Council members elected by Orange residents in November will help determine the terms of your next contract, so it’s important we help elect those candidates who support OMA workers in your fight for fair wages and working conditions. We ask that you remain updated and active, so that when the time comes you can join us in support of those candidates.

For a deeper understanding of why OCEA/OMA is involved in politics, click here for a short, informative “OCEA University” video from OCEA Assistant General Manager Tim Steed.

Currently, your City Council consists of: Mayor Dan Slater; Mayor Pro Tem Arianna Barrios, District 1; Councilmember Jon Dumitru, District 2; Councilmember Kathy Tavoularis, District 3; Councilmember Denis Bilodeau, District 4; Councilmember Ana Gutierrez, District 5; and Councilmember John Gyllenhammer, District 6. The positions of Mayor and City Councilmembers for Districts 2, 3 and 5 will be up for election this November.

Remember, union members, standing together and organizing through their strength in numbers is how we’re able to build political power, not just for our union, but also for everyone in our community.

In Solidarity,

OMA
