Safety Conditions in OC Detention Facilities

Dear OCEA member,

As we enter a new week, I again want to say thank you for all you do for our community on the front-lines of the fight against COVID-19. You have all served with courage and professionalism in the face of the pandemic.

The OCEA membership is diverse and broad. Our members serve in every aspect of public government. The diverse OCEA representation also means that our members are having diverse experiences during this time. Workers in the jail, for example, have unique demands that require enhanced safety. In some parts of the jail, we have had great collaboration and we thank the OCSD Command Staff who have been helpful.

Please click here to read the letter I sent to County CEO Frank Kim regarding the safety conditions of OCEA members working in Orange County Detention Facilities. We expect OCEA members to be provided with necessary safety precautions in detention facilities that serve the County of Orange.

We will continue to stand together to demand safety in all County locations. Please continue to advocate for your safety and voice any concerns you may have to your management, your workplace leaders and your union staff representation.

In Solidarity,

Charles Barfield
OCEA General Manager
