This year is already shaping up to be big for our Union. Just this past month FMEF successfully prevented the outsourcing of two positions in ASD. This is a significant win but we know the City will continue its outsourcing schemes.

Congress recently passed the American Rescue Plan that provides relief to small businesses, workers, and local governments across the country. The legislation was the topic of an exclusive briefing Monday provided by two members of the Orange County Congressional delegation: Rep. Lou Correa (46th District) and Rep. Mike Levin (49th District). The briefing also included discussion of the upcoming jobs legislation.
DA: Return to Work Update

On April 1, 2021, all workers in the District Attorney’s office received an email with direction to return to work no later than May 3rd. This email message was forwarded to an OCEA staff representative.

Your retirement security is administered by the Orange County Employees Retirement System (OCERS). Adele Tagaloa and Chris Prevatt are not just OCEA Board members, you have also elected them as OCERS trustees to oversee OCERS' operations on behalf of you and thousands of other members. Adele and Chris are joined on the OCERS Board by retiree member and former OCEA President, Frank Eley.
AMEA and OCEA Scholarship Applications now available!

For many of our young people, the American Dream means a college education. But the cost of higher education is a barrier to success for many working families. Each year, the OCEA Board of Directors offers a scholarship to OCEA members. For the first time, the AMEA Board of Directors will be offering scholarships to AMEA members.

Update: CST/CSA Meet and Confer

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, we met and conferred on the impacts of the Sheriff’s Department’s decision to merge the CST, Sr. CST, and CSA classifications. This is a continuation of discussions that began before the COVID-19 pandemic and we will report out as further details develop.

On March 30, 2021, Orange County moved into the less restrictive orange tier under the state’s reopening framework, allowing more indoor business operations to open with modifications. Despite improvement in COVID-19 case rates, experts warn the risk remains. Hopefully, increasing access to COVID-19 vaccinations will further decrease new cases.

Important CST/CSA Update

As you know, after eight years of litigation by OCEA against the Sheriff's Department, the Courts determined that SSOs are legally classified as public officers under Penal Code section 831.4. This determination impacts staffing in the Superior Court because under the Government Code only peace officers under Penal Code section 830.1 or 830.33 may perform bailiff duties.
